Donnie L. Paul joined the US Army in 1958 in Dayton Ohio, at the ripe old age of 16 and with an eighth grade education. After basic training and AIT, Don went Airborne with the 101st Airborne Division at Fort Campbell, in which he served two times. He attained the rank of SSG(E-6) and became an instructor at Fort Benning jump school.  From there he attended Infantry Officer OCS, where he was a distinguished graduate. He had previously obtained his HS GED. After commissioning, he joined the Green Berets.  He had several varied assignments and two tours in Vietnam.  Among his awards are; Combat Infantry badge, master  parachutist badge, four bronze stars with “V” device, and an Army Commendation Medal with “V” device.  The “V” is for Valor in combat.
Don attended Marian College in Indianapolis while in the service.  He earned a BA degree in Business Administration.  He has been active in the VFW and the DAV as a life member and is a past Commander of the Disabled American Veterans, Chapter 117. He married Terrie D. Simmons and they have been together over 20 years.
 He retired at Carlisle, PA in 1979 with over 21 years of service.
